Small amounts of amethyst are found at many locations throughout the world in igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks. The name "amethyst" is an incorrect varietal name when used as an adjective for chalcedony. Purple chalcedony and lilac chalcedony, are acceptable names for this material. These materials also have a difference in refractive index. There is where you can observe the luster. If you use a hand lens or a microscope to examine the facet junctions on a faceted stone or the boundary between the flat base of a cabochon and its domed sides, you can usually find at least one tiny conchoidal fracture. Quartz has a vitreous luster on conchoidal fracture faces, while chalcedony has a dull luster on conchoidal fracture faces. The name chalcedony is used for microcrystalline quartz - quartz that is in crystals so small that they cannot be seen without the aid of a microscope.įortunately, it is easy to tell the difference between quartz and chalcedony. Why are those names improper? They are improper because purple quartz (amethyst) and chalcedony are two different gemological materials. It is often improperly called "amethyst" or "amethyst chalcedony." Purple Chalcedony: Chalcedony can occur in a wide range of purple colors. Enormous deposits of amethyst in South America and Africa provide enough amethyst to keep the price low. That makes it durable enough for use in rings, bracelets, earrings, pendants, and any type of jewelry. It is used to produce faceted stones, cabochons, beads, tumbled stones, and many other items for jewelry and ornamental use.Īmethyst has a Mohs hardness of 7 and does not break by cleavage. It is the purple color variety of quartz that has been used in personal adornment for over 2000 years.Īmethyst is the birthstone of February and an important New Age gem. Amethyst is the world's most popular purple gem.

Take the opportunity to grow through your enemies. You don’t see in others what they are, but what you project onto them. When you begin to work on those aspects in yourself, when you begin to shed light on your darkness, your rejection of the other will decrease significantly.įinally, you don’t see reality as it is, but as you are. Instead, stop for a moment and analyze what the situation is teaching you. Nor should you react uncontrollably with hate and resentment. When you find yourself before someone who moves you internally, even in a negative way, don’t run away. Furthermore, perhaps you should review the way you treat the people around you in case your behavior resembles that of the enemy that you reject so much. You don’t need to become a boaster, but maybe you do need to work on your self-confidence. That’s why you need to keep your enemies close, because they can serve as inspiration and learning. Perhaps this all sounds crazy to you, but if you adopt the habit of analyzing these situations carefully, you’ll begin to obtain valuable information that’ll make a lot of sense. Maybe, while in the workplace you’re extremely different from this individual, perhaps in your relationship with your partner or with your friends you’re equally authoritarian and not too empathic. Ask yourself in which situations in your life you’re acting in the same way. The one who’s dominant and doesn’t take into account the opinions and needs of others. On the other hand, you may feel animosity toward a colleague who always leads and calls the shots. Therefore, the feelings of rejection that this person generates in you are the signal for you to analyze this aspect of your own life. That might be because you don’t have enough confidence in yourself to act in a more free and uninhibited way. For example, perhaps you’re excessively rigid, restrained, and formal. Nevertheless, it may be that the reflection of this person displeases you so much because it reflects a side of your personality that you don’t allow to come out. Consequently, you automatically think that they have nothing to do with you because you’re kind, polite, and respectful. Then, ask yourself what part of them is in you? How do they relate to you? You may be facing a particularly unpleasant person who you see as brash, arrogant, or self-centered. First, ask yourself what bothers you about the person. To take this valuable opportunity to get to know and improve yourself, you have to keep an open mind and be humble and honest with yourself. On the contrary, your enemies bring to light your shadows, your resistances, and those aspects that you must work on in yourself, no matter how unpleasant they may seem to you. The people you love and with whom you feel a greater affinity probably show you the kinder side of yourself, and your virtues. Furthermore, the more intense the feeling, the clearer and sharper the reflection is, whether for good or bad. In fact, your interpersonal relationships function as a mirror and show you aspects of your own personality. Indeed, we all see different aspects in the same person. You have to keep in mind that the person you dislike may be someone’s husband or best friend. I would forget about 10K mi transmission oil changes. Noticably better than normal after warming up. It was around 187K miles on the original fluid. My roomate's car was a 2003 VR6, I bought it from him so he could buy my house. and suddenly everything was buttery smooth again. (but only in Southern Florida, hint, hint) dangerously, it refused to go into gear on me out of the blue. I've got three VW transmissions at various intervals.Ģ001 Golf became VERY notchy at 114K miles. BMW always laughed at me, but my comeback to them was "there is no such thing as lifetime fluid until there is a lifetime guarantee!"Īny thoughts from the Forum's wisdom? At this stage, the dealer is checking with a Tech, as they are not even sure if they have the fluid! Really? My old school thinking says metal on metal makes metal, and I should get the filings out of the fluid after a break in. Be it a new to me (used car) or a new car, after some miles, I change the fluid. This is something that I have always done. That said, I asked the dealer to change my manual transmission fluid. I already did the oil and filter and rotated the tires at 5k, but I figured, I'd have the dealer do the checks as prescribed by VW, so as to keep all things in check if I ever need any warranty work done. Its in for its 10k mile oil change today. I'm driving a 6 speed manual in my Cup Car. I've searched and the only things that seem to come up under 'transmission fluid' is a myriad of quibbles about if the dsg is a good or bad transmission. Under the act, Florida's six existing state-supported institutions were abolished and reorganized to form the State University System of Florida under the newly established Florida Board of Control. In 1905, the Florida Legislature passed the Buckman Act, which completely reorganized the state's publicly supported institutions of higher education. It would use that name for the remaining two years of its existence. The Florida Legislature, looking to expand FAC's curriculum beyond its agricultural and engineering offerings, changed the school's name to the "University of Florida" for the 1903–1904 academic year. The second major precursor to the University of Florida was Florida Agricultural College (FAC), which was the state's first land-grant college under the Morrill Act when it was established in Lake City in 1884. In 1866, the East Florida Seminary reopened in Gainesville at the former grounds of the Gainesville Academy, a small private college that had also closed during the war. The East Florida Seminary was Florida's first state-supported institution of higher learning and operated until 1861 with the outbreak of the American Civil War. The modern University of Florida traces its origins to 1853, when the East Florida Seminary, the oldest of its four predecessor institutions, was founded in Ocala, Florida. As of 2021, University of Florida students and alumni have won 143 Olympic medals, including 69 gold medals. The University of Florida's intercollegiate sports teams, the " Florida Gators", compete in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I and the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The university's seal is also the seal of the state of Florida, which is on the state flag, though in blue rather than multiple colors. It offers multiple graduate professional programs-including business administration, engineering, law, dentistry, medicine, pharmacy and veterinary medicine-on one contiguous campus and administers 123 master's degree programs and 76 doctoral degree programs in 87 schools and departments. The University of Florida is home to 16 academic colleges and more than 150 research centers and institutes. It is the third largest Florida university by student population and is the fifth largest single-campus university in the United States with 57,841 students enrolled for during the 2020–21 school year. The university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The University of Florida is one of three members of the Association of American Universities in Florida (the others being the University of Miami and the University of South Florida) and is classified among "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity". Īfter the Florida state legislature's creation of performance standards in 2013, the Florida Board of Governors designated the University of Florida as a "preeminent university". The university traces its origins to 1853 and has operated continuously on its Gainesville campus since September 1906. It is a senior member of the State University System of Florida. Nirvana's "Unplugged" performance was considerably more unplugged than most, but Cobain used some electric tools. Plus, she pointed out, "Dave drums like Animal from 'The Muppet Show.'" 7. "Any time you have a band that's so electric and try to unplug them, there's always a lot of challenges, creatively," explained "Unplugged" director Beth McCarthy-Miller. " didn't sound good," according to Grohl, who admitted he was struggling to attain a lighter touch on the drums. Rehearsals for the show went so poorly there was talk of Grohl not performing at all. When Coletti asked Cobain about the décor, the singer confirmed that he meant for it to look like a funeral. But even before the taping, some on the set found it ominous. The darkly atmospheric stage set, as seen on the album cover, seemed to take on added significance when the network repeatedly rebroadcast the band's performance after Cobain's death on April 5, 1994. The black candles, white lilies, chandelier, and draperies were all Cobain's idea. "I don't think MTV will let us play that," he responded when someone called out for the song " Rape Me." The network had, in fact, previously banned Nirvana from playing the song during the band's performance at the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards. Cobain had an especially good reason for turning down one audience member's request. "That would've been horrendously stupid." When prompted by an audience member request, Cobain asked, "How are we supposed to play ' In Bloom' acoustically?" 4. "We knew we didn't want to do an acoustic version of 'Teen Spirit,'" Grohl later said of the band's breakthrough single. MTV tried its best to convince Cobain and the band to incorporate " Smells Like Teen Spirit" and other well-known Nirvana material into the set, but to no avail. Other than " Come As You Are ," the band refused to play their own hits. They're not doing any hits, and they're inviting guests who don't have any hits to come play. "But when I said 'the Meat Puppets,' it was kind of like, 'Oh, great. In a 1995 Guitar World interview with contributor Alan di Perna, Coletti recalled how "everybody's eyes lit up" when he told the network that Nirvana would be bringing along some special guests. According to producer Alex Coletti, MTV had been hoping for guest artist appearances from the likes of Eddie Vedder or Tori Amos. While David Bowie's "The Man Who Sold The World" was familiar to mainstream audiences, Nirvana also used the telecast to bring attention to esoteric personal favorites such as the Vaselines' "Jesus Don't Want Me For A Sunbeam" and Leadbelly's "Where Did You Sleep Last Night." The group was also joined onstage by Chris and Curt Kirkwood for three songs by their band, the Meat Puppets.Ģ. Six of MTV Unplugged In New York's 14 tracks are covers, and mostly obscure ones at that. (Among the albums it bested was Grohl's Foo Fighters debut.) But his artistic spirit lives on in what many consider to be one of the greatest live albums ever.įollowing are 10 lesser-known facts about the album and performance that marked the premature end of a promising career. 1 and went on to win a GRAMMY for Best Alternative Music Performance. But with their "Unplugged" performance, the band netted an even broader audience while performing in the more intimate Sony Studios in New York rather than the arenas they'd begun headlining.Ĭobain would not live to see the 1994 release of the MTV Unplugged In New York album, which debuted at No. Cobain and bandmates Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic had already become internationally recognized as the godfathers of grunge, which was as much a marketing construct as it was a musical movement. Recorded less than five months before his death at the age of 27, the telecast and subsequent album capture the Seattle trio at its creative and commercial peak. More than two decades after its release, Nirvana's performance on MTV's "Unplugged" still stands as a convincing testimonial to Kurt Cobain's unmistakable musical genius and enigmatic charisma. While the falls are the area’s main attraction, Blackwater Falls State Park has several attractions and things to do. This 57-foot waterfall takes its name from the tinted water that cascades down. The chicken was dry the smoked sausage has the flavor and consistency of a cheap hot dog. The second time around, the meats were hot but lacked seasoning and any flavor of smokiness except for an odd chemical aftertaste that I presumed was some kind of fake smoke. The second night I ordered the 4 meats BBQ platter. The NY strip steak, veggies, and baked potato were outstanding! The salad with field greens was great too! The chicken and rice soup was the same both days. Loved the ambiance and Jackie, Blake, and Heather delivered excellent service!īreakfast was OK I ordered the same thing both times. Won't go back which is a shame because Blackwater Falls Lodge must lose business due to this independent restaurant treating customers like they do not matter. As I said, the food was good, but the service was abominable. The problem is in this area is that many of the local restaurants are closed 3-4 days of each week so it's not like you have other options for getting a meal. I have never experienced such rude wait staff. By the time we were waited on, I was near tears. The second evening, the wait staff (one waitress in particular) was exceptionally rude and loudly told anyone within hearing distance that they had to have room for that darn bus, even though we had reservations which were made that morning with their staff!! She very ungraciously divided a long table and sat my part of two, and another party of two. The first night, even despite having to wait forever to be seated, we had eaten and left before this bus ever showed up. This was because half of the restaurant was closed waiting on a bus. We waited over an hour to be seated, other people had to wait a minimum of an hour and a half. We found out the hard way that if a bus is coming in to have dinner, other guests are NOT important. One at breakfast where they had a great buffet, and two times at dinner.

I found that the only way to get a correct final measure is to manually change the measure property for that final measure, reducing the actual duration as required. I've attached three basic files of a three-bar 'Test piece' which show the steps (in case I haven't made it too clear). When a pickup measure is needed, the final measure in the score should have an actual duration of a full measure less the value of the pickup. I then deleted this bar and was left with the three-note pickup bar. the duration works in whole counts or Quarter Notes, I have a Up Measure that has 3 eigth notes in it, so that is 1 1/2 quarter notes which to make it work right in duration it would be 1.5/4 but the program dosent handle eighth note up Measures only full counts. This created a new six-beat bar at the start, complete with a rest symbol. a pickup measure, is to modify the first measure, by right clicking on it. I looked at the handbook and guess what it dosent apply to this. I selected the first of the three notes, then went to "Tools, Measures, Split measure before selected note/measure". Now that we know what a pickup measure will, let’s acquire started on how at augment it in MuseScore. Step-by-Step Guide to Add a Pickup Dimension in MuseScore. However, I did find an easy way to resolve the issue, as follows. It’s used into create a rhythmic anticipation or ampere pickup into the first full measure. Is this due to the fact that when I imported the midi file, there were no rests shown? I couldn't find any way to delete the first six beats. Likewise, the last two were deleted when I set it to 7/9. I then tried it at 8/9 and found that the last note was deleted. When I clicked on "Apply", the whole bar was deleted. But if you have to make arrangements for your pick up later, this is easy to do. Install and run the plug-in Add Pickup Bar. Create a pickup Musescore using the controls to create a new score when you create your score. There are two options for adding a pick-up bar to a score after the score has been created. When I selected the first measure, then "Measure Properties" menu, I changed the duration to 3/8 and checked the "Exclude from measure count" box. You have the opportunity to specify a pick up the measure. I was having trouble modifying the opening bar of a simple piece of music with a time signature of 9/8, so that only the last three quavers would be shown as a pickup bar. This is how I managed to do it in 4.1 so hopefully, this might be helpful to others. Honestly I don’t want to shoot in SLOG because the correction and grading is over my head for now lol. Here’s the video I’m talking about - it’s in the very beginning of the video and he’s saying he shoots slog2 and just slaps a LUT on top to have the colors corrected and graded. If you are shooting SLOG to only throw a LUT on and call it done, you shouldn't be shooting in Log at all. SLOG will give you the most available dynamic range in your captured video, but without proper correction and grading you wont see it all. You could do the same in Premiere in Lumetri and then apply it to everything as a Master Clip Effect.Īlso, I just watched a video on real estate videography - the guy said that shooting in SLOG2 is a must for shooting interiors of homes with bright windows due to the huge dynamic range of the windows vs interior. But for that, I just go to DaVinci and make my own for every shoot (usually one for ever location). But remember that a LUT is a starting point at best unless this is a temp color.īut honestly, I wouldnt use it unless its just temp color for editing and you dont want to look at grey all day. There is an abundance of "SLOG2 to _" LUTs online its almost a joke. You need to use the scopes, and some saturation.
